Lucile P. Galey age 98 of Pearland, Texas passed away March 13, 2017 after a short illness. She was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on March 19, 1918, the only child of Beulah and Charles Powers. Lucile graduated from Bradford High School and married Richard W. Galey at First Presbyterian Church of Bradford. They were married for sixty years. She was a loving mother to four children. A fabulous cook and generous hostess, Lucile always welcomed family and friends to her house. Her interests included reading and playing games (especially bridge), oil painting, ceramics, and flower arranging. The family moved to Houston in 1966 and Lucile started a new social life becoming active in Woodforest Presbyterian Church and several community organizations. After moving to Pearland with her daughter she became an honored member of the Boomers Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church Houston. In the last year of her life she was still active in a bridge club and two book clubs. Lucile loved to travel and had many adventures on overseas trips including Thailand and Singapore and Venezuela after she was in her eighties. Trips with her daughters and granddaughters left all with wonderful memories. She also loved to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren in Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, New York, Illinois, and Maine. Lucile was full of fun and humor and everyone enjoyed her company. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard W. Galey, Sr. and her son Richard W. Galey, Jr. She is survived by daughters Susan Newton (Neil), Martha Nenno (Michael), and Barbara Compher (Charles); grandchildren, Timothy Newton (Maryse), Richard Newton (Natalie), Charles Compher, Jr.(Jill), Robert Compher (Katy), Michael Compher (Ann), Corinne Eisenman (Sarah Highland), Kevin Eisenman, and Helen Besley (Bob); great grandchildren, Sophia, Bradford, and Charles Newton, Spencer and Jonas Newton, Claire and Jacob Compher, Luke and Charles Compher, Matthew and Lucy Compher, Hannah and Maya Besley; and a host of other family and dear friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lucile’s honor to Christian Helping Hands, Inc., P.O. Box 34, Pearland, Texas 77588, your local library or to a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service for Lucile will be held Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77004.
