Herb was a loving and devoted father that was a wonderful provider for his family. He was hardworking, detail oriented, and had a strong work ethic. Herb was in the United States Coast Guard in his formidable years, and he spent 25 years as a Field Technician at AddressOGraff MultiGraff Corporation, and before retiring he spent for over 20 years at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) as the Director of the Department of Biomedical Technology. Herb had a strong mechanical mind and could build or fix anything. In fact, the Barrier Family was the first in Brookside to be entertained by a color television that was built by their father. Herb enjoyed a variety of hobbies including taking in stray animals, building and flying remote control airplanes, partaking of a variety of sweets and desserts, and collecting odds and ends by frequenting local garage sales. Herb was an active member of the Harris County Bee Keeper Association, serving as the President of the club for several years. Herb was also very civic minded and made a huge impact on many lives while he was a Brookside City Councilmember in the 70’s and 80’s. Herb was the kind of man who remembered to ask others about the details of their lives. He was a positive influence, always had a joke and a bright smile to share with others, and he held great concern for all of mankind. Herb will be missed tremendously by all that knew and loved him.
