Obituary of Geeta Devi Punwasi

Geeta Devi Punwasi, age 54 of Friendswood, passed away on Tuesday, November 7th 2017. She was born to the late Tulsi Punwasi and Kunty Punwasi on March 28th 1963.

Geeta attended St. Joseph Anglican School and Corentyne High School in Guyana. In 1989, she moved to the United States, where she pursued her interest in photography at San Jacinto College. Geeta began her career at The University of Houston – Clear Lake working in a customer service position, as she enjoyed helping people and interacting with others. Beyond work, Geeta often volunteered at Southeast Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Family and friends were Geeta’s passion and delight. She also had a genuine love for children, which was exemplified by her relationship with all of her nieces and nephews. She found time for each one of them and made each one feel special. She was a talented artist and loved all forms of art – photography, drawing and painting. She often gifted original drawings and paintings to close family and friends. Most importantly, Geeta had strong faith and found strength in her religion. She diligently followed the Hindu teachings and intuitively differentiated right from wrong.

Geeta is preceded in death by her father, Tulsi Punwasi. She is survived by her mother, Kunty Punwasi; brothers, Roger Punwasi and wife, Mey, Mohan Punwasi and wife, Christine; sisters, Vee Tiwari and husband, Andy, Chandini Betts and husband, Nicholas, Vedica Punwasi, Hema Ramnauth and husband, Rishi; seven nieces, six nephews, one grandniece; and many other family and dear friends.

Geeta touched countless lives with her free spirit, independence and generosity. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services for Geeta will be held Saturday, November 11th 2017 at 9:30am at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581.
