John Boyce McCleskey, Sr., better known as “Johnny Mack”, passed away, Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at his residence in Pearland at the age of 68 years. He was born October 12, 1936 in Wesson, Arkansas to Gordon Wade and Athie (Helms) McCleskey. Johnny Mack was a talented entertainer and musician most notably remembered for his famous musical jingle written for the Miller Brewing Company, “If You’ve Got the Time, We’ve Got the Beer. Miller Beer.” Johnny Mack is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann McCleskey and his sister, Sandra Russell. He is survived by a loving family; his son, John B. McCleskey, Jr. of Pearland; two daughters, Karen Melissa McCleskey of Houston and Kelly McCleskey of Katy; three brothers, Gerald McCleskey of Shreveport, LA, Leon McCleskey of New Orleans, LA, and Stephen McCleskey of Houston; and three grandchildren, Dorinda McCleskey, Matthew McCleskey, and Sean David McCleskey. The family received friends on Thursday, September 1, 2005, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Clayton Funeral Home in Pearland. Graveside Services and interment were held on Friday, September 2, 2005, at 9:30 AM, at The Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veteran’s Memorial Drive in Houston, with Pastor Mike Waldrop of Fellowship Bible Church officiating.
