Obituary of Malinda Ann Frame
Please share a memory of Malinda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Malinda Ann Frame, 62, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Betty Jo Short; brother, Mike Short. Malinda is survived by her loving husband of 41, years, Phil Frame; daughter, Kristel Reida and husband, Al; grandson, Christian Douglas Reida; and a host of other family and friends.
Malinda attended Southmayd Elementary School, Deady Junior High and Milby High School where she graduated near the top of her class. She then went on to The University of Houston with majors in both History and English Education. After earning her BA degree in Education in 1973, she worked as a teacher in a multi-level private school at Freeway Baptist Church for a year, then “retired” for a few years, still doing occasional substitute teaching, mostly in the Pearland/Alvin/Pasadena/South Houston areas.
Phil and Malinda were married on the evening of December 29, 1972. After a honeymoon in Corpus Christi and Port Isabel they lived in an apartment on Broadway in Houston. After about a year they bought a home in the Garden Villa area near Hobby Airport and in 1978 were blessed with daughter Krissy. The family remained there until moving to Pearland in 1983.
While still living in Houston, Malinda accepted a teaching position in Pearland. She stayed there for a semester but due to class size, etc., she and Phil agreed it best to give that up for a time. Besides, she missed her daughter. After Krissy was older, Malinda went back to Pearland Schools teaching English, History, and finally, what she discovered as her calling & passion, English as a Second Language (ESL). She earned a Master of Science in ESL Education at University of Houston Clear Lake in 1989 while teaching ESL at Pearland. The last class for this degree took place on the campus of the University of Hawaii in Honolulu so she, Phil and Krissy all had to “endure” a few weeks there and were able to do lots of sightseeing on the islands.
In 1997 she was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma requiring both major surgery and radiation. She then went back to Pearland Schools the following semester. Two years later the cancer had returned, and yet another surgery was required. She and Phil agreed that she should take a position less demanding, thus began her career at Houston Community College, still teaching ESL. She made many great friends, both at the Pearland schools and at HCC. Malinda remained at HCC until retiring in 2007.
In the years following retirement Malinda and Phil were often able to enjoy traveling in their RV and visited many areas of Texas and other parts of the United States, including the New England states, the West coast, the Great Northwest, Minnesota and upper Mississippi River, parts of Canada, and a fly/drive outing to Alaska. They saw almost all of the US, but were both keenly aware that there is no place like Texas, and that service to The Lord and to others, no matter where you are, is what brings true and lasting enjoyment.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Malinda may be made to Shadycrest Baptist Church Local Missions Fund, which supports the ESL Ministry, which The Lord graciously granted her the strength and support to begin.
The visitation and memorial service for Malinda will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 . The family will be receiving friends beginning at 9:30 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am with Dr. Ryan E. Jennings officiating.
