Dennis James Walters passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014. His parents, James Walters and Dorothy Herman, precede him in death. Dennis passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 43 years, Vicki Zeitler Walters, by his side at Houston Hospice. He is survived by his children: Suzanne Kathleen Organ and husband Scott Organ, Steven James Walters, Staci Michelle Walters and husband Jeffery Eisenmann, and Scotty Lee Walters; niece: Amberly Day and husband Brandon Mobley; sister: Joyce Heckadon; brother: Lyle Herman and wife Vickie; grandchildren: Haley and Nathan Wright, Cole and Carlee Organ, Evalina Eisenmann, and Bella Mobley. Dennis James Walters was a caring person who gave unconditional love to anyone and everyone. His humor brought constant life and laughter to his family and friends and complimented his fun-loving disposition. He was always accepting, never mad, and giving of his time, self, and money to those around him. He was a cherished husband and father who supported his family as a Chief Engineer for the Merchant Marines. Retiring after 26 years of dedicated service, he had travelled the world and collected more than his fair share of adventures. Dennis was an accomplished woodworker, leaving behind a collection of award-winning violins. His courageous battle with brain cancer lasted more than 23 years and Dennis is remembered in a positive light as a constant source of inspiration, touching every person he met. Affectionately known as “PePaw”, Dennis enjoyed spending the days of his retirement with his children and grandchildren. We remember Dennis as able to repair anything, caring for the family business Brookside Storage, golfing, as a puzzle enthusiast, and offering help to anyone in need. Some of his most memorable accomplishments include carving his violins with carefully chosen pieces of broken glass bottles and outsmarting ant rafts in his flooded front yard. Dennis was known as a cat person, caring for “Mama Cat” and her 32 offspring. Dennis enjoyed his lawn mowers and was known for spending cool mornings mowing the yard and a daily ride to the mailbox. He was a well-respected mentor by the example of his life, through his strong faith and love of the Lord. His generosity is well known among his co-workers, friends, and family. His life overflowed with love and joy and his smile will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation and memorial service for Dennis will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 pm and the service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Jon Taylor officiating.
