Dear Wood Family,
I had the pleasure of knowing Nathan because I managed the apartments he lived in, in San Marcos. He came in almost daily to talk to me or just see how my day was going. After he moved, he still called to talk and catch up. I left the complex a month ago and we lost touch. I am so greatly devastated to hear of his passing. He had such an amazing soul and passion for the kids he taught. He was truly a remarkable person and will greatly be missed.

To hear of the passing of Nate was truly devastating. I had the very great pleasure of working with Nate at HEB in San Marcos while he was in college. Nate always had the uncanny ability to light up every room he walked in to. His family has been, and will continue to be on my mind and in my heart every single day. Nate will truly be missed.

The Wood Family,
We are so sorry for your lost; just know God is with you and when you don’t understand just trust.
My son Isaiah was in Mr. Wood class, when I first Met Mr. Wood I informed him I was the parent who would be emailing him on a regular basis regarding Isaiah’s class work and grades; I knew he was going to be a good teacher when he replied; I would love for you to email me, this lets me know you are a concerned parent and this makes my job easier.
When Isaiah got his first color change in February Mr. Wood was shocked, he took him to the side and told him not to make it a habit.
To the parents of Nathan Wood I thought this would be good for you to know how passionate he was about his students.
(Isaiah 53:4, John 16:33)

Mr. Wood taught my step-daughter Mackenzie this year. He was a perfect fit for her and encouraged her daily as she transitioned into a new school. Mr. Wood corresponded with me on her progress all most weekly. I was impressed with his interest in her success and his way of bringing out the best in Mackenzie. I am deeply saddened by your loss and my prayers are for your peace and comfort during this time.

I am a counselor in LCISD and used to work with Diane Parks. I didn’t know your son, but I know that Ms. Parks only hires people who she thought were 100% child-focused. So, I’m sure that your son must have had the heart of a teacher. I pray for God’s strength and comfort for your family. I’m sorry for your loss.

Alice and Bobby,
Our prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We recall how your face lit up with joy when you spoke over the phone with Nathan during President’s Day weekend — you and Bobby were helping us with our rehearsal setup. It was clear from the joy on your face that you both loved Nathan so much and that you especially loved his generous nature and BIG heart. With time, may your tears of sorrow be replaced with tears of joy as you recall all the joyful times you shared with Nathan. We are keeping you, Nathan and his family in our prayers now and ongoing.
With love,
Mike and Meriellen Cain, Clearwater FL

I met Mr.Wood during our parent/teacher conference and he told me that he loved having Jaden in his class and that they would have conversations about Russia. I didn’t even know that Jaden could carry on with such a conversation and we both had a laugh about it. I could tell that he was excited about teaching and about his students. You will be missed.

As the father of my daughter Shannon, who was Nathan’s girlfriend for the last two years, I grew to love Nathan. He was a hard-working, compassionate, respectful Christian man who loved my daughter with all his heart. One of the last times we spoke he looked me in the eye, shook my hand and with tears in his eyes, told me Shannon was his angel.
I don’t know if Nathan realized how many people’s lives he touched but as Shannon often told us “everybody loves Nathan”.
My most cherished memories of Nathan were when he and my daughter discussed their teaching experiences for the week. I quickly realized how much they cared for those children and how teaching was more than a job – it was a calling.
Rest in peace my BROTHER!
I will never forget you…

David, Lisa, Leah, and Carley,
I lift each of you up in prayer as you navigate this unbelievable storm. I want you to know that your son and brother brought so much joy to the students he taught at Hubenak. He had an energy and spunk that was contagious. About two months ago I received a text from him saying that he knew he had found the career he was called to do. I am so thankful he spent the last few months of his life as a teacher doing what he loved-helping others. He truly lit up a room and will be missed deeply!
Much, much love to all of you,
Stacy Boarman and family

Our son, Drake, has been blessed by Mr. Wood! Mr. Wood impressed me so much at our parent conference. When he told me he stayed up at night thinking of new ways he could challenge our son, I new he was a great fit for Drake! Drake really liked Mr. Wood and loved how fun he was in the classroom as well as on the playground. His eager and enthusiasm toward my son and the rest of his students was obvious! He will be greatly missed. Blessings to his family–

My prayers are with you.
Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Dear Family, I am so heartbroken to hear of this news. I worked closely with Nathan, Mentoring him along his way to becoming a fine teacher. It was obvious that he had a passion for teaching history/Language Arts. He shared his passion for baseball, but he know mine was football. We’ d “talk” sports as much as I could keep up with him. I loved seeing his smile every morning as he always made a point to tell me “good morning, Ms. Sahagun”. I will truly miss this fine, young man! My sincere condolences to you and your family.
