Obituary of Bernice Soland

Bernice Soland, age 88 of Katy, Texas, entered God’s heavenly kingdom on January 22, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Paul Tuffly and Sonny Mae Bridges; her loving husband of fifty-six years, Fredrick Herman Soland; son, Fredrick Herman Soland Jr.; and sister, Mary Ellen McDonald. She is survived by her sons, John Paul Soland & his wife Linda, and Patrick Soland & his wife Mona; daughters, Paula Scardino, Linda Naff & her husband Dan, and Diane Crouch & her husband Bill; sister, Rose Marie Alderete; daughter-in-law, Inez Soland; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of many other family and friends. Bernice was born on October 27, 1920 in Houston, Texas. She worked at St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland from 1964-2000. She assisted families with wedding preparations, helped in the CCE office, and printed bulletins. Throughout her life, Bernice enjoyed catering for weddings and anniversaries. She was always there to lend a helping hand or volunteer for anything going on at the church. Fred and she loved traveling to New Mexico to visit her sister Rose and her husband John. Bernice will always be remembered for being “small but mighty”. Visitation for Bernice will be on Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial is on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581, 281-485-2421.
