Obituary of Helen L. McGuff

Helen L. "Nonny" McGuff passed away Saturday, June 18, 2005 at her residence in Pearland, at the age of 87 years. Nonny was born July 26, 1917 in Sabine, Texas to the late William Benjamin and Clara Hayes Pearce. She had been a resident of Pearland since 1964 and was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Nonny loved to write poetry. She wrote poems for family members for all occasions. Nonny loved music. She was an accomplished piano player and in earlier years she played on radio. Nonny won the contest to name Independence Park in Pearland. She read the “Daily Word” every day and her life revolved around her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
Nonny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack D. McGuff, Sr. and is survived by a loving family; her son, Jack McGuff, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Joyce McGuff; her grandchildren, Jill McGuff and her daughter, Megan; Jack McGuff, III, his wife, Lyn and their children, Erin and Jay; and Jon McGuff, his wife, Helena and their daughters, Caley and Emily. Nonny is also survived by a sister, Billie Romano, three sisters-in-law, Doris Higgins, June Foster and Margaret Harrell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. A Celebration of Nonny’s Life was held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at the Chapel of Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. Interment followed at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
