Obituary of L. D. Harris

L. D. Harris was born July 26, 1932 in Timpson, Texas to Mary Ann Ford and Henry Harris. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas and attended school in Timpson and Cleveland, Texas. L. D. was united in Matrimony to Laverne Barnes on November 7, 1953 in Timpson. From this union they were blessed with five children.
L. D. joined the United States Army in 1953 and later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. He worked compress and as a longshoreman, and later moved to Pearland, Texas. He passed away quietly on March 4, 2006. L. D. Harris leaves to cherish his memories his loving family; his devoted wife, Laverne Harris; son, Lewis Harris, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Bennett, Marilyn Gxddings, Lillian Harris and Linda Scott and her husband, Dennis, all of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Alvertis Hill and Betty Joe Williams; two brothers-in-law, Robert Anderson, of Los Angeles, California and Learly Barnes, of Tenaha, Texas; six grandchildren, Ealy Bennett, Jr., Quintessa Harris, Fallon Harris, Santrell Scott, Danesha Scott and Zapporah Scott; great grandson, Josiah DeShaun Hall; two nieces, Johnnie Fay Jackson and her husband, Rev. Kanavis Jackson and Joyce Jones, all of Houston; numerous other nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 PM Friday, March 10, 2006, at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. A celebration of L. D. ’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 11, 2006, in the chapel of Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland, with Rev. Kanavis Jackson, officiating. Interment will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens, in Pearland.
