Obituary of Gilbert Jasso

Gilbert C. Jasso, age 85, of Pearland, passed away on March 9, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, Max & Julia (Cavazos) Jasso, and twelve brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Augustina Flores Jasso; daughters, Ora Lee Martinez & her husband Tito and Mary Lou Nugent & her husband John; sister, Mary Martinez; grandchildren, Christina Phillips, Gilbert Martinez & his wife Gabriela, Julia Pineda & her husband Jacob, Laura Galvan & her husband Robert, Jason Martinez, and Rebecca De Jesus & her husband J.D. Gilbert was born on March 11, 1923 in Runge, Texas, one of fourteen brothers and sisters. He was a resident of Pearland for the past fifty nine years. He was raised in the country, growing up on a farm, and had lifelong fondness for these roots. While a young man, he learned about crop dusting and eventually learned how to fly planes to do this job. Gilbert loved his family and was affectionately known as “Po Po” to his grandchildren and “Great Po Po” to his great-grandchildren. Augustina and Gilbert were faithful members of St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland. He was a morning person who always enjoyed his breakfast to start the day. Gilbert never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor. He left a legacy of memories and will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Gilbert will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm, officiated by Deacon Darvin Bordelon from St. Helen Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial is on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 1:00 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 101 Arenoso Street, Runge, Texas 78151, 830-239-4146. Interment will follow at Runge Cemetery. Father Eric Szyda will be officiating.
