Obituary of Sunda Mary Barton

Sunda Mary Barton passed away on April 16, 2009 after a long illness. She was 86, enjoyed a long full life, and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Mary is preceded in death by her parents John & Harriet Pappas; husband, John V. Barton; son, John William; and daughter, Barbara Anne. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Barton-Brown and Camille Haycraft; sisters, Sophia Woods Hannerty and Athena Deitz; and granddaughters, Barbara Anne Haycraft and Sarah Camille Haycraft.
Mary was born on April 23, 1922 in Crescent City, California. In 1950 she married Lt. Colonel John V. Barton and accompanied him to Europe, Japan, and other postings. Mary and John were married for more than fifty years. As a young woman she attended the Berkeley Business School in Berkeley, California and during WWII, served her country working for the War Department at the Quartermaster Market Center of the United States Army in San Francisco. Mary resided in El Paso, Texas for forty-seven years before moving to Pearland, Texas. She always saw the good in everyone and offered kind words and support to anyone in need. Mary adored her family and loved her grandchildren, often baking and cooking for them. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and sewing. Everything Mary did was done to perfection–that was just her way and one of the many beautiful qualities she will always be remembered for.
A Memorial Service for Mary will be held on May 9, 2009, 2:00 pm, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581, 281-485-4446.
