Jade, your birthday tribute to your daddy is absolutely beautiful. He is your Guardian Angel and will be watching over his “Jadee Wadee” for eternity. I'll spend today doing "Jerel things": eat his favorite pancake/sausage breakfast, listen to his music, visit his tree dedicated in his memory at the city park, eat his favorite crawfish for lunch, look at his photo album, watch one of his favorite movies (we use to laugh so

Hey daddy. It’s April 13, 2022, and I just now found out about this tribute wall. It’s been too long. Daddy I miss you, I miss you more than anything. I wish you were here physically. I know your watching me grow up in heaven but I wanna see you watch me grow up. Sometimes I feel like I took our time together for granted. I was so young, unaware of how short life is. Unaware of how important it is to cherish every moment with the people you love because one day you’ll wish you did. But I’ve learned to be grateful. I’m grateful that I was your daughter. I’m grateful for the time I spent with you. I’m grateful that your my father. I’m grateful that I’m a splitting image of you. I look exactly like you daddy. Still. People use to call us twins when i was younger , and I have no doubt people will think any different now. I feel like I’m a walking reminder that you’ll always be with us. Granny and Papa have given me the biggest support system. I know it brings them happiness having me around. My mother is the strongest women I know. My sweet nephew. I think of you all the time, and I smile. You could make a whole room light up with your jokes and conversation. Jade is about to start her last year in elementary school. Its going to be tough this year because we always go to "Meet the teacher" together. I would always laugh at how we all tried to explain who was Jade's father vs. stepfather. Man, Jade misses you and I miss just talking to you about "life". I miss arguing with you about old stuff, and then busting out laughing because one of us said something funny! I think I find peace in knowing that you and I were at a good place with each other, and you know my heart and the truth about us. Thank you, thank you, thank you for my dedication in "Soul Heaven" and your side message and your punchline in "Everybody Else" Yes, you did have alot of karats in that ring! Ha! There has been so much that has happened since that day I got that phone call, and it has been a very challenging time for me. I just pray for Jade, and pray for understanding! Your death changed my life. I just continue to let Jade know how much you loved her, but the thing is she knows!Thank you for my gem Jade. I ask God to increase my faith, and know that he said he would go and prepare a place for us...so I can only believe, hope, and know that he knows what's best and he got you! Last night Jade and I read a book that helps children grieve titled "Is my daddy ever coming back?". I pray each day for help with explaining to Jade that she will never see you again here on Earth. I think about you EVERYDAY. I listen to your music as I go to work and I smile, I sing, and I cry. Just the other night Uncle Link and I danced to your song, Everybody Else. Sometimes I close my eyes and see your face as you come from the back "suite" headed to who knows where. Always on the move, but that was who you were. It saddens me to hear of hi passing.Jerrel was a great friend,classmate person. I met him in High School after moving to a new town and new school. I know it is not easy to say goodbye to your son but believe me when I say, that God has a better plan than what we or he had for himself... It was an honor and a blessing to have known Jerel. I can't even remember how many time we barbecued together and hung out! Jerel always took over mopping sauce or marinade duty and usually ran the grill too. Jerel was an outstanding father to his daughter Jade. I vividly remember talking to him one time about her. The smile that came over his face showed me instantly how proud he was of her and how much he loved her. I will miss you homie! Much love, JD. Jerel was my brother. I've had the pleasure of him being a part of his life for ever it seems. He's always been there for me and I for him at certain moments through our life. Jerel was like my son! When I started at HCC, Cathy asked me to speak to him about career options. Upon meeting Jerel, we bonded instantly. He and I got so close, I started calling him "my boy". Whenever he was at the campus, he made it a point to stop by to see me.
My heart is broken and words cannot express my sorrow and how much I grew to love and cherish Jerel's warm and loving smile. To Cathy and Robert, words cannot express my sympathy for your loss.
