Obituary of John Paul Jones

John Paul Jones, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jr. and Elsie Jones; brother, Walter B. Jones III. John is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Jones and fiancé, Christopher Myers, Bethany Jones; their mother and former wife, Marilyn L. Jones; and a host of other family and friends. John was known to many of his friends as John Paul or JP. He was a proud patriot that served his country in Vietnam as a Ground Radar Repairman in the United States Marine Corps 3rd Division. In 1972, he graduated with Honors from North Texas State with a B.S. in Economics and Secondary Education. John Paul had an incredible intelligence with a great knowledge of history and geography. He was an economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and one-time restaurateur. John worked for many years in the electronics field, specializing in oilfield, industrial and avionics equipment. JP authored many articles ranging from bicycling, gunsmithing and even sausage making. John’s greatest achievement was his two daughters that he cherished above everything else. He had an amazing sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. John was incredibly generous and loyal to family and friends. He was a skilled hunter and outdoorsman, with a deep love of the wild spaces of North America. In the late 60s, he rode a motorcycle on an epic solo journey across the U.S. to British Columbia. In his later years, he lived out his lifelong dream of going to Africa on safari—which he was able to do several times. In addition, he was a long-standing member of the NRA and Houston Gun Collectors Association. John was an avid gun collector, sharpshooter and amateur gunsmith. John will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A Memorial Service for John will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Father Jim Payne officiating.
