Obituary of Joseph Michael Redican

Joseph Michael Redican, an engineer, business strategist, entrepreneur and an expert on chemical enhanced oil recovery died on March 23, 2016. He was 62. Born in Munich, Germany to Thomas Frances and Martha Anne (Stewart) Redican, Joe traveled the world throughout his childhood until the family settled in Springfield, Missouri after his father retired from a military career. Joe graduated from Springfield Catholic High School as a National Merit Scholar and attended the University of Missouri-Rolla on an academic scholarship where he attained a bachelors and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to earn his masters of business administration from Mary Hill College. Joe was hired right out of college by Shell Oil Company and first worked at the Shell Chemical Plant in Geismer LA and also worked at the Shell Martinez Refinery near Martinez, California. After earning his MBA and successfully launching a technology start-up business in 1998, Joe moved to London after he was promoted to business strategist and began to travel the world for Shell Chemicals. He spent the last nine years of his career with Shell Chemicals as a Project Implementation Specialist. After he retired from Shell, he went on to become the Vice President of Chemical Flooding Technologies, LLC. He was an avid researcher and spent much of his time developing various projects related to chemical enhanced oil recovery projects. Joe spent the last ten years married to Kristi Nix in Pearland, TX. Together they raised Zac Crosby, who initially was her son, but quickly became Joe's son too. Joe took great pride in Zac’s athletic accomplishments throughout his high school years and attended many Pearland Oiler football games and Pearland Railcats Varsity Lacrosse games. Joe was an active supporter of the Pearland Youth Lacrosse Club. He was instrumental in establishing the club’s scholarship program and was dedicated to helping student athletes achieve their college dreams. Joe was also very proud of Sue and David Redican, his two children from a previous marriage. Joe enjoyed spending time with his daughter Sue and was proudly looking forward to attending her upcoming college graduation ceremony at Kansas University this spring. During Joe’s recent illness, Susan came to help care for her father in the nursing home and her love and support strengthened their relationship even further. Joe also cared very much about his son, David, and was very proud of his accomplishments. Proceeded in death by his father, Thomas Redican. Joe is survived by his wife, Kristi Nix, his son Zac Crosby, his daughter Sue Redican of Lawrence, Kansas and his son David Redican of Saint Peters, Missouri, his mother, Martha Redican of Springfield, Missouri; sisters, Marty Belveal of Springfield Missouri, Cecilia and brother-in-law Jim Richardson of Liberty, Kansas and brother Thomas Redican of Springfield, Missouri as well as his beloved nieces, Emily, Sarah and Lisa. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Pearland Medical Center and the doctors, nurses and all the staff members at the Colonnades at Reflection Bay for their kindness. A Memorial service will be held on March 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Rice Temple Baptist Church located at 6409 Greenbrier in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will follow at South Park Cemetery located at 1310 N. Main. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Pearland Youth Lacrosse Club Scholarship Fund.
