Mary C. Melchor was taken to heaven with all the angels on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Wife-Mother and Grandmother-Friend She lived a wonderful life and was cared for by her husband of 55 years, Frank B. Melchor, Sr. You could always find Mary with a beautiful smile on her face. She loved music and dancing. She loved caring for her children and grandchildren and spending time with her friends and family. She gave her heart to her husband, Frank, and they spent a lifetime watching their family grow. Mary loved and cared for her favorite pets, Buster, Tweety, and Lil’ Argos. She was the mother to Patty Lyerly, Frank Melchor, Jr. and wife Valerie, Barbara Burleigh-Schankel and husband Jim, and Jackie Norris and husband David. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, Chris Lyerly, Vanessa Melchor, Danielle Burleigh, Andrew Melchor and Austin Schankel. She will also be remembered by her brothers, Jimmy and Joe Velasquez, Joe Pena, and sister Isabel Ortiz. Mary is preceeded in death by her parents, Santiago and Felipa Velasquez, and sister Geneva Hernandez. Mary was her children’s biggest fan and supported them in all their activities, serving as girl scout leader, den mother, and room mother. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for more than 35 years: Court St. Helen No. 2330 and Court Regina Coeli No. 1959, where she served as a Regent. She was also active with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, member of the Arch Bishop Flores Committee for many years, and volunteered at the Veterans Medical Center. She retired from Baylor College of Medicine after 15 years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2007 beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas. A memorial mass and service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road in Pearland, followed by internment at Resurrection Cemetery in Pearland.
