Obituary of Leelama Chandy
Please share a memory of Leelama to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leelamma Chandy was born and raised in Alwaye, Kerala to Late PT Iype and Late Saramma Iype of Palakalathil House. She was the second of seven siblings. As the only sister, she was cherished and supported by her brothers.
Leelamma married Late KV Chandy of Parayil House in 1961. Together, they have three children, Lovely Keerikattu, Moncy P. Alexander, and Manoje Chandy. Her beloved husband passed away in October 1982. With continuous prayer, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice, Leelamma raised her three children as a widow. Leelamma was lovingly called Ammachi and Kochamma by her loved ones.
Ammachi split her time between family in Kerala and America. She loved all those in her community as her own family. She would frequently go on walks around the neighborhood and befriend all her neighbors. No one was a stranger to Ammachi. She enjoyed spending time outdoors looking at flowers with her daughter.
She treasured spending time with her children and her grandchildren. She attended all of their programs and functions and was an active supporter of each of them.
Ammachi was a loving and prayerful woman. Many have referred to her as a prayer warrior. She enjoyed spending her days at church with her family. She had a close relationship with Jesus and believed that her strength came from The Lord. She shared the importance of her faith with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ammachi was an active member of St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral Houston and
St. Paul’s Orthodox Church Kolladu, Kerala. Even in her last days, Ammachi appreciated listening to Christian songs, prayers, and Bible readings.
On May 22, 2016, Ammachi passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her children. During her time on this Earth, she touched the lives of everyone around her with love and prayers. She will forever be remembered for this legacy.
Ammachi is survived by her children, Lovely Keerikattu, Mathew Keerikattu, Moncy Alexander, Premu Alexander, Manoje Chandy, Priya Manoje; brothers, PI Philip, PI George, PI Sunny, PI Raju, PI Moni; and grandchildren, Lynn, Leny, Noah, Elizabeth, Miriam, Hannah, and Tom.
