Obituary of Edward Lynn Mehollin
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ed Mehollin was born March 15, 1948 in southern Ohio. His early years were spent in Cadiz, Ohio with parents Phil and Gale and younger sister Rebecca. A lovable rascal as a child, Ed was active in scouting and shared a keen interest in cars with his father, often traveling with him to car races and road rallies. In 1958 the family relocated to the Canton, Ohio area where sister Molly was born in 1961, completing the family.
Ed graduated from Glenwood High School in 1966 and earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Akron in Clinical Psychology. He was also awarded a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio.
He enjoyed a very successful career in the fields of psychology and hospital administration, always dedicating himself to making a significant, positive difference in the lives of others. His work led him to Michigan, South Carolina, Texas, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, and most recently back to Texas. Former employers include Ohio Department of Mental Health, Alabama Clinical Schools/Universal Health Services, Christus Spohn Health System, Pasadena Villa Network of Services and Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. He served on several Boards including 3 terms as President of the Mental Health Association of Alabama, a Board Member for Mental Health America and a Board Member for the Schizophrenia and Related Disorders Alliance of America. He gave many hours volunteering for depression screenings, participating in charity walks and golf tournaments and many other activities to increase Mental Health Awareness.
Intelligent, witty, and personable, Ed has always made good friends everywhere and remains close to his college buddies. In the early 1970’s Ed married Gail Gross of Wadsworth, Ohio. Soon they welcomed a daughter, Amy, and later a son, Sean. With the births of Amy and her husband Cameron’s children, Ed and Gail became proud grandparents to Sebastian and Penelope Ray. Amy Mehollin-Ray currently resides in Pearland, Texas. Sean Mehollin resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ed’s interests include music, reading, photography, and of course, grand-parenting. He is an avid golfer and a very talented guitarist, having mastered both 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars and delighting many with his skill and creativity.
Ed is a man of strength, character, initiative, and principle. A loving husband, father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, father-in-law, and brother-in-law, he is cherished by his family and continues to inspire all.
