Obituary of Gussie Lee Gunn

Gussie Lee Gunn, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 18, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Eddie and Elcena Smith Sr.; husband, Robert Gunn; and brothers, Charles Smith and wife Illa Ruth, and Maverick Smith. Gussie is survived by her sons, Steve Smith and wife, Beverly, Tracy Smith, and Waylon Henry; daughters, Karlene Best and husband, Curne, Kadeshia Blackmon and husband, Tyrond; brothers, John Eddie Smith Jr., Marvin Smith and wife, Della, Fred Smith, Lionel Smith and wife, Stella; sister, Debbie Banks and husband, Theodore; grandchildren, Christina Gunn, Chelsey Best and Courtney Best, Brittany Gunn, Tyrond Gunn, Brandon Gunn, Brandy Gunn, Tyrell Gunn and Jaylon Gunn, Raquel Smith, Adrienne Smith, Gabrielle Smith, and Tristian Smith, Byron Johnson, Tremane Smith and Ashlyn Smith; great grandchildren, Aaliyah Lopez, Hayden Prudhomme, Kenlyn Taylor and Ksyn Taylor; and a host of other family and friends. Gussie was devoted to God and her church and believed strongly in helping others in need. This belief was made evident in her nursing career and through her compassion for all she encountered. She had a servant heart not only for her patients at work but also for her friends and family. As a single mother, Gussie's strong work ethic made her a force to be reckoned with. She was a wonderful provider. Gussie never missed a day of work and always balanced her career so that she was there for her family for all occasions. She remained strong in her faith during her long journey on this earth, and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Throughout Gussie's life she enjoyed shopping, dancing and recently traveling. She was a strong and independent woman her entire life and found great comfort in sharing stories and talking with her family. Gussie loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A visitation for Gussie will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 7034 Tierwester Street, Houston, Texas 77021. Interment will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
