Obituary of June Bujnoch
Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June Kelley Bujnoch died on February 28, 2017 in the same way she lived her life. She spent her last months, and especially her last days surrounded (and often crowded) by her many family members and friends. She was 86.
June was born in Canton, Mississippi on June 3, 1930, but spent much of much of her childhood in New Orleans. Her family later moved to Houston, where she graduated from Incarnate Word Academy at the age of 16.
June attended business school and was working downtown when she met John Bujnoch. They met after John asked the driver about the tall, pretty girl that rode on his bus.
The rest, as they say, is history.
John and June married on September 17, 1949 in Houston and raised nine children together. The family attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and most of the children graduated from Mt. Carmel Elementary and High Schools. The family later moved to Pearland where they attended St. Helen Catholic Church.
June worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for most of her life. Before she became ill last summer, she was still working part-time with her sister-in-law, Esther Simon.
June enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading and the occasional casino trip. She drove the Road to Hana and bought a cuckoo clock at a castle in Germany. She shopped at the souks in Dubai and drank in the pubs of Ireland. But her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are 39 at this writing.
The ultimate matriarch, June attended every family event she could: Weddings, birthdays, graduations and of course, sporting events. She loved football, but could even hold her own discussing arcane horse show details.
In other words, she was always there. And her passing leaves a huge void.
But her family is buoyed by the knowledge that she will live on in so many hearts and in so many “mom stories.”
June was preceded in death by her husband, with whom she shared 40 years, her parents Phillip and Idao Kelley, her brothers Phillip Jr. and Patrick, and by her son, Dennis.
She is survived by her son John Jr., son Glenn and his wife Susan, son Michael and his wife Rebecca, daughter Judy, son Thad and his wife Melinda, daughter Mary Wade, son Mark and his wife Tricia, daughter Theresa and her husband Chris Cannon, daughter-in-law Jane and cousin Dorothy August.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jake and his wife Melissa, John-Paul and his wife Holly Gregory, Tim, Phillip, Katarina, Tatiana, Nic and his wife Katie, Aunnie and her husband Jon Wertenberger, Digger and his wife Lindsey, Austen, Summer and her husband Jeff Moore, Melanie, Karissa and her husband Gharret Miller, Sarah and her husband Dusty Rogers, Rachel and her husband John Ganz, June and her husband Cole Chaney, Calvin, Thomas, Matthew, Eleanor, Kacie Rosser, and Kari and her husband Kyle Eppler.
June is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and by her “adopted” children Josephine Dolan and Isaac Montelongo, along with his wife Blanca.
June was a mother figure and friend to many, many more. Words cannot express the gratitude her family feels for their continued love, support and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in June’s name to PKD Foundation at www.PKDCURE.org.
