Thelma Louise Robledo, 87, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Prudie Benton; her first husband, John Calvin Hartsell Sr., second husband, Elias Robledo; brothers, Clifford, Elwood and Jimmy Benton; sisters, Evelyn Early, Bernice Friery, Ida Armstrong and Mozelle Scarbrough. Thelma is survived by sister Jean Aiken and husband Bobby, sons, John C. Hartsell and wife, Teri, David R. Hartsell and wife, Nellie; stepsons, Pat and Fred Robledo; stepdaughter, Laura Jakups and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Keith, Greg, Jessica, Katie, Ryan, Monica and Avery; eleven great grandchildren and a host of dear nephews and nieces and friends.
Thelma was strong in her faith and was a charter member of Garden Road Baptist Church. She had a servant's heart and read the bible to John and David during their formative years, instilling a keen sense of right and wrong. Thelma remained active in her church throughout her life, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, singing in the church choir 50 years and assisting with driving anyone to church that needed a ride or couldn’t drive. She truly had a servant’s heart and helped others in need. Thelma worked for more than 30 years with Sears and had a successful career in sales. She loved traveling and taking family vacations. Family was always extremely important to her and she loved spoiling her grandchildren every chance she could. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren and she cherished every opportunity she had to spend time with and cook for them. Thelma was truly an inspiration to everyone and a wonderful example of how one should live their life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Special thanks from the family to Willeen Tisdale for her special friendship shown in so many ways to our mother.
