Obituary of Wilburn Henry Hollas
Wilburn Henry Hollas, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Thekla Hollas; and sisters Mary Ann Hollas and Dorothy Kahanek. Wilburn is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Eugenia Hollas; daughters, Cindy Kutac and husband, Alton; Diane New; Karen Maraldo and husband, Michael and Marilyn Wester; sister Gladys Jasek; grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Kutac, Lesley and Derek Wied, Megan and Nahum Brown, Nicholas and Jennie Kutac, Collin and Casey New, Christopher Maraldo, Jonathan Maraldo, Brandon Maraldo, Jason and Crystal Wester, Ashley and Adam Baldwin; great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.
Wilburn was born on January 12, 1925 in Weimar, Texas in Fayette County to Henry and Thekla Pauler Hollas. He attended St. Michael Catholic School and Weimar High School. Wilburn is a veteran of World War II. He entered the service August 2, 1943 and was discharged January 9, 1946. Wilburn proudly served his country in World War II in Europe under General George Patton. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War Victory Medal. Wilburn participated in the invasion of Normandy. Wilburn lived in Houston for 45 years and later moved to Pearland, Texas. After retiring, from Western Electric after 35 years, he enjoyed ranching at the family homestead in Weimar, Texas. Wilburn was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1952 and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and later a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. He also served as President of the St. Helen Super Seniors. Wilburn was also an officer in Catholic Life Insurance, Brother 150 South East Houston for 15 years. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Helen Catholic Church Building Fund. Visitation and Rosary will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 7751. The visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with the Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, Texas
