Obituary of Jerry Eugene Burns

Jerry Eugene Burns, 74, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ann Burns; first wife, Judith Burns; and step-daughter, Jacqueline Stivers.  He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Mercedes Burns; sons, Corbitt Burns and wife, Reni and Brian Burns and wife, Stephanie; stepson, Kristopher Stivers and wife, Tania; stepdaughter, Jessica Draper and husband, Jody; brother, Paul Burns and wife, Carol; sister, Diane Bohnsen and husband, David; niece, Natalie Mercer; nephews, Andrew and Matthew Burns; grandchildren, Alli, Gracie, Emilian, Raegan, Dade, Braxton, Sydney, Seth, Rachel and Liam; and a host of many other family and dear friends.

Jerry was a graduate of St. Thomas High School and St. Thomas University.  He worked for the public works department at West University for many years and retired from the City of Pearland where he served as the director of public works.

Jerry was a dedicated husband and father who loved spending quality time especially with his grandchildren.  He had a passion for hunting and was an avid sports fan.  Jerry looked forward every day to reading the Houston Chronicle, especially the sports page and doing the puzzles.  He dearly loved his dog, Red T. Burns. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas High School or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030.

A Memorial Service for Jerry will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Reverend Jim Courville officiating.
