Obituary of Darvin Alfred Bordelon
Longtime Pearland resident and native Houstonian, Darvin Bordelon died on August 25, 2017. Darvin was born on November 20, 1938 to Alphonse and Frieda Bordelon in Houston, TX. He spent his childhood in Houston and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1957, and the University of Houston in 1972 with a degree in Business Management. At the early age of 17, Darvin began a successful career at Gulf Oil/Chevron. After retiring from Chevron, he went on to work for Solvents and Chemicals and ended his business career at Coastal Chemical. He is a veteran of the Army Reserves.
In 1969, Darvin moved his family to Pearland and became a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Together with his wife, Carol, they served the parish community of St. Helen’s. Through St. Helen’s they developed many life long friendships that they valued and shared through the years. Darvin proudly served as a Deacon in the Catholic Church for over 37 years and will be greatly missed by his faith family.
Darvin will be remembered by his family as a hard working, self- made man. He put himself through high school, and college while working and raising a family. No challenge was too big for Darvin. The words, “I can’t” were never part of his vocabulary and he instilled that attitude in his kids. He was smart and could fix or conquer anything that crossed his path. Darvin was an avid outdoorsmen and shared his love of hunting, and fishing with his sons, grandsons and friends. He was a firm but loving father, teaching his family by example and instruction, and a loving, fun partner in marriage to his wife Carol.
Preceding him in death are his parents and his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Carol Bordelon. He is survived by his son, Kevin Bordelon and wife Carla, daughter Cathy Sharp and husband Bill, and son, Bruce Bordelon and wife Susan. He will continue to watch over his grandchildren Michael Sharp, Meagan Bordelon, Emily Sharp, Brian Bordelon and wife Meagan, Traci Bordelon, Kyle Bordelon, Sutter Sharp, and David Bordelon. Darvin will also be remembered with love by his sister, Judy Gustin and husband Ray, and his dearest friend and companion, Carol Mitchell who was a valuable source of love and friendship to him over the last several years.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10 AM on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 with a rosary following at 10:00 AM at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd., Pearland, Texas 77581.
