Obituary of Betty Ann Redd
Betty Ann Redd, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, RV and Elizabeth Morrow. Left to cherish Betty’ memory is husband, Larry Redd; son, Ronald Vincent Redd and wife, Geri; daughter, Terri Ann Tate; brother, Herman Morrow and wife, Jean; sisters, Lorayne Scott and husband, Joe, Charlotte Drew, Debra Finley; adopted sister, Mary Wilson; grandchildren, Kirin, Jared, Gerard, Andrew, Lauryn and Joshua; and a host of other family and dear friends.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend that placed a high value on family and education. She loved her family dearly and cherished traveling across the country to visit them. Some of the allure on road trips were the many stops along the way. Betty loved music and was an avid concert-goer. She was a long-time member, and accountant, of the Trinity AME Church choir in Lansing, Michigan. She was strong in her faith and felt it was her mission to serve the church. After moving to Houston, she became just as active with her Briarchase church family.
Betty’s other love was education; where she taught Second and Third grade classes, at both Gier Park and Cavanaugh, in the Lancing School District for 31 years. She believed that shaping young minds toward excellence was vital to their future success. Betty graduated third in her high school class. She attended Tennessee State University for two years on an academic scholarship. She completed her Bachelor, with high honors, and a Masters degree at Michigan State University. Betty, a high school cheerleader in Somerville, Tennessee, enjoyed watching a good game of basketball and football. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s honor to The Betty Morrow Redd Scholarship Fund at Tennessee State University.
Two Memorial Services will be held for Betty: (1) Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11:00 am at Briarchase Missionary Baptist Church, 16000 Blueridge Rd., Missouri City, Texas 77489 with Pastor Larry Grant officiating; and (2) March 9, 2018 at 11:00 am in Lansing, Michigan, tentatively at Trinity AME Church.
