Obituary of John Burnett Yost
John Burnett “Bootsie” Yost, 83, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Yost. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Yost; son, Michael Yost and wife, Mary; daughter, Lisa Yost; sisters, Evelyn Yost Jones and husband, Bobby, Carolyn Yost; grandchildren, Scott Burger, Amanda Yost Molina, Courtney Burger, Michaela Yost; grand dogs, Toodles and Max; and a host of other family and dear friends.
John was born February 9, 1935 in Pearland, Texas and lived in Pearland his entire life. He graduated from Pearland High School in 1953. John lived on Yost Blvd, which was named after his grandfather Christian Yost, who settled in Pearland in the early 1900s. After graduation, John attended Sam Houston State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1957. He returned to Pearland and enjoyed a successful career as a draftsman. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves for five years. John was a lifelong supporter of his Pearland Oilers and could be found year after year at football, baseball, and basketball games cheering on the teams. Family was extremely important to him and he especially loved supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was even known to help out down at the Pearland ISD AG barn where he would be known to help Michaela with her pigs. John was an excellent carpenter and along with his father, built the home that John and Mary lived in for 45 years. His sisters fondly remember him as a very caring and generous brother that always watched out for them. Some of his greatest joys came from riding on his John Deere tractor and vacationing with his family in New Braunfels. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
