Robert Burg, Sr. May 09, 2007 Robert Dean Burg, Sr., 81, formerly a native of Decatur, Illinois and now of La Porte, Texas died May 9, 2007. Mr. Burg was born Dec. 21, 1925 to Frank and Anna (Aden) Burg. He was a trumpet musician in the Decatur Red Coats in the Stephen Decatur High School and in his late teens he was the Decatur City Champion in doubles tennis. He loved to participate and watch sports and played fast pitch softball around central Illinois. He won many horseshoe tournaments and was a member of the Decatur Bowling Hall of Fame. Mr. Burg was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one at the Southside Country Club in Decatur on July 8, 1993, which was witnessed by all four of his sons. He moved to La Porte, TX in 1977 and had retired in 1990 after 37 years from Lyondell Millenium (USI) Chemical Plant where he was the Safety Manager. Mr. Burg was an active member of the Fairmont Park Baptist Church and his family asks in lieu of flowers for donations to be made in his name to the Fairmont Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 10401 Belfast, La Porte, TX 77571. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Edwina (Brooks) Burg; children Bob Burg, Jr. and wife, Marcia, Bill Burg, Sr. and wife Margie, Jean Higar and husband, Paul, Rick Burg and wife Linda, and Dan Burg and wife Regina; grandchildren Michelle Campbell, Christine Wilber, Nicole Wallace, Bill Burg, Jr., Angie Smull, Jon Higar, Paul Higar, Jr., Bobby Higar, Todd Burg, Tiffany Holley, Patty Hatton, Kelsey Burg, and Kimberly Burg; and 26 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with the funeral at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Dr. Wayne Spears on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Fairmont Park Baptist Church. Interment will be held later at the Fairlawn Cemetery in his home state.
