I just found out today Dr. Wheeler had passed away. Dr Wheeler was one of my favorite teachers. I learned so much from him. I am so sorry for the families loss. He was a great professor. He was very quick wit. I will remember always as one of the best teachers ever. Debbie–I am so sorry for your loss.

Kenny and I were shock and saddened to hear the news of Steve’s death. Sounds like he touched many lives while on this earth and no doubt he is in heaven touching many more. “To be absent in the body, is to be present with the Lord”.

We are very sorry to hear about Steve’s death. I worked for Steve in the Biology and AP labs several years ago and enjoyed my time there. I have great memories of all the wonderful people that worked there. Steve had a neat sense of humor that made working there fun.
Our Sympathy to Debbie and Family,

Debbie & family
Steve’s passing so soon after his retirement makes one think there is no fairness in the universe. Ironically Steve was as hard working and professional an educator as I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching in action. Debbie, your sadness will be shared by hundreds of students and professors who were improved and inspired by him. We considered him a friend and like all who really knew him will miss his dry wit, curmudgeon facade and the twinkle in his eye.

27 years ago I walked into Dr. Wheeler’s A&P class as a brand new high school graduate. I learned a lot that first summer in A&P I & II (for one, college was not nearly as easy as high school!). I thought of him as I worked as a nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital for many years….then in 2001 I had the pleasure of becoming his colleague when I became a nursing instructor at ACC. His dry sense of humor had not diminished over the years.
Good bye dear friend, colleague and mentor,
Debbi Fontenot
