Helen S. Crowder October 29, 1922 - November 13, 2012 Helen Rose Stephens Crowder, born in Houston, Texas on October 29th, 1922, died of natural causes in Houston, Texas on November 13th, 2012. She was a lifelong resident of the Houston area and La Porte. Helen graduated with honors from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston and attended Baylor University. She was a charter member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte. She was a member of Goose Creek Eastern Star Chapter #798, Daughters of the Kings, St. John’s Altar Guild, La Porte Commerce, Board Member of the Lou Lawler Seafarers Center, Houston Yacht Club and CEO of The Bill and Helen Crowder Foundation. During WWII, she worked at the shipyard and after her children were born and in school she worked with her parents and brother in their insurance agencies in La Porte and Pasadena. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Dell S. Baker, brother Robert Stephens and his wife Joye, husband Richard Arthur, and second husband William E. Crowder. Survivors include children Richard Stephen Arthur and wife Linda of Baytown, Patricia K. Grantham and husband Ron of Sugarland, grandchildren Steele Stephen Arthur and wife Crystal, Ryan Keith Grantham, Jordan Scott Grantham, and Peri Elaine Arthur & great grandchild Trigg Steele Aurthur. Also surviving her are three nieces Judy Hines, Sharon Hawley, and Fran Barrington. Visitation will be on Saturday November 17th, 2012 at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday November 18th, 2012 at St. John’s Episcopal Church 815 S. Broadway, LaPorte, Texas with Rev. Reid Morgan III officiating. Burial will be at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena. Those who desire, may make memorial donations to the Crowder Foundation 6005 Fairmont Pkwy., Ste I Pasadena Texas 77505, St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte, Texas or to the charity of your choice.
