On February 1, 2015, Shirley Jean Cameron Davis went to the Lord in the comfort of her family’s love. She was the wife of Robert Donald Davis, her husband for over 59 years, and the devoted mother of three daughters, Jean Marie, Eva and Robin.
Shirley was born in Houston, Texas on October 27, 1935. She was the elder daughter of Victor and Marjorie Cameron and the granddaughter of Harry S. and Isabel C. Cameron. Shirley attended St. Agnes Dominican Academy and Our Lady of the Lake High School, both in Texas.
Her love and constant guiding support for her immediate and extended family, her Catholic faith, the study and practice of art, beautifying her world by gardening and her close personal friendships brought her immense happiness throughout her life. Shirley was an avid artist and studied throughout the Houston area, including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Glassell School of Art. She also taught adults at San Jacinto College, for which she was very proud. Shirley’s passion for art was shared with her mother and her two sisters, with talent uncommon to a single family.
Shirley was a 35+ year member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte, Texas and a lifetime member of the Archdiocese of Houston-Galveston. She was an avid parish committee and Choir member for most of her life. She served as a Trustee for the Harry S. and Isabel C. Cameron Foundation, further exemplifying her profound Catholic faith. This passion and dedication led to construction of “Rosary Hall” at St. Mary’s, for which she was very proud.
Her tireless energy also benefited her local community for many years. She served as Past President of multiple civic and humanitarian-minded organizations, including the Houston Yacht Club’s Ladies Association, the Ladies Reading Club, the Garden Club and the Art League.
Shirley is predeceased by her mother Marjorie Cameron and her father Victor Cameron.
