Bettye Ray DeJon
March 10, 1921 - December 09, 2011
In the beginning God created heaven and earth and after that,
Bettye Ray DeJon. Bettye was the beloved wife and soul mate of Edward DeJon for 68 years. She was born in Eastland, Texas on March 10, 1921 and Died on December 9, 2011 surrounded by her family. She Graduated from Waco High School and attended Oglethorpe University.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, and daughters Patty and Alan Ward and Bettye and Richard Slaven. Her beloved grandchildren are Allison and Charlie Poe, Ashly Dunn, Kelly and Michael Terstriep, Daniel and Jessica Slaven, Jeffery Ward, Michael Klein, Richard and Elizabeth Ward and Sally Ward. Her greatest joy came from her eight great grandchildren: Jonathan and Charles Ward, Dimetri and Lexie Dunn, Schaefer and Josie Terstriep and Kate and Edward Slaven. She was the ultimate fun loving grandmother and even better great grandmother.
She was active in numerous civic volunteer activities some of which were the LaPorte Garden Club, The LaPorte Reading Club, The LaPorte Heritage Society, Houston Panhellenic, Houston Girl Scouts, Kappa Delta Sorority, and the Junior League.
Her love of Galveston Bay with it’s unique wildlife and activities was evident in her lifelong association with the Houston Yacht Club. She served as Ladies Association President and was a strong supporter of the Women’s Sailing Association.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She never turned away a homeless animal and loved to entertain in her home with her friends. Most especially, she liked to dance with her favorite partner, her husband Ed.
