Dr. Andres E. Gamboa July 18, 1931 - August 22, 2008 Dr. Andres E. Gamboa, 77, of La Porte, went to be with the Lord, Friday, August 22, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 18, 1931 in Ibague, Colombia, he was the son of the late Ruben Gamboa and Teresa (Sepulveda) Gamboa. He graduated from Colegio San Simon of Ibague, Colombia, in 1948, and he received his medical degree with honors from the National University of Bogota, Colombia in 1954. He practiced medicine in Maryland, and he was proud to serve in the US Air Force, where he earned the rank of Lt. Colonel, before returning to his private practice in Texas. After retiring in 1996, he enjoyed playing piano, listening to classical music and operas, watching boxing, and taking care of his rose garden. He was an avid reader, and he liked to keep current on advances in medicine. A devout Catholic, he especially liked traveling to Italy, and he was proud to be a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte. He is survived by his wife Beatriz (Ibanez) Gamboa, son Ruben Gamboa, daughter-in-law Mona Gamboa, and grandchildren Emily and Woodrow Gamboa of Wyoming. Services will be held on Friday August 29, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte, 816 Park Drive. Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM, with Monsignor B. J. Zientek and Father Gary Rickles officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Samaritan Ministry of St. Mary’s Rosary Hall. Andres’ Family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that cared for him at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and Triumph Hospital in Baytown, especially Dr. Fariborz Nazari, Dr. Kashif Ansari, Dr. Mohammad Khoshnevis, Dr. Shariq Rauf, Dr. Rashid Siddiqi, Dr. Olukayode Okuwobi, Nurse Cindy Barefield and St. Mary’s Samaritan Ministry of La Porte.
