Richard Miller Goff

Richard Miller Goff, 50, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends as he began his journey to be with the Lord.
Richard was born on August 19, 1964 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family moved from Rockport to Mojave, California and then to Big Spring, Texas. The Goff family then made La Porte their permanent home in the early 1980s.
An athlete all through his youth, Richard played football for the La Porte Bulldogs and graduated from La Porte High School in 1983. He was among the lead dancers in several of famous La Porte High School musicals, including “The Wiz” and “The Music Man.” He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Mountain State University.
Richard focused his life’s work on helping others in need, which he was able to do during his career with the Houston Police Department. He also served as a Harris County constable; furthermore, he implemented a Dept of Justice initiative for the Weed and Seed program. He received several Awards of Honor and Valor during his time in law enforcement. He was given 11 Life Saving awards.
After his retirement from HPD, Richard was a successful businessman and was active in building several small businesses. In recent months, he launched his latest venture, Goff Motor Transport. He was President of AIG Construction, which served Galveston and Harris Counties. He also worked for Magna-Flow, where he served as Vice President and Metra Industries as Vice President.
Spending time with family was also a huge part of Richard’s life, through church and other activities. He served as a coach for his son Zachary’s youth football team, the Bay Area Sharks and supported him throughout junior high and high school athletics. He was very influential and supportive in daughter Allie’s swimming and junior high and club volleyball activities. He was an expert marksman and hunter. He enjoyed boating and fishing. These passions he shared with his children.
Faith was the cornerstone of Richard and wife Camille. Seabrook United Methodist Church was a beacon for he and his family have as they have served as members for over 15 years. He was instrumental as a member of the Building Committee that oversaw the construction of the new church.
Richard is survived by his wife, Camille; son Zachary Goff and daughter Alexandra Goff. Also surviving are Richard’s sister Stephanie Goff Kramer and brother-in-law Mark Kramer. Additional survivors include mother and father-in-law Beth and Steve Fullbright; brother-in-law Adam Huisenfeldt and wife Rose and brother-in-law Aaron Huisenfeldt brother –in-law Bob Peterson and sister-in-law Miriam Huisenfeldt and nieces and nephews Ivy Kramer, Chloe Guerrero, Michael Guerrero, Megan Huisenfeldt, Madeline Huisenfeldt, Jacob Huisenfeldt and Isaiah Fullbright. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Linda Goff of La Porte and grandparents John B. and Mary Goff and Marion and Hazel Johnson all of Rockport.
A memorial service will be held 10:00am Saturday Jan. 10,2014 at Seabrook United Methodist Church, 3300 Lakeside Dr,Seabrook, TX 77586. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family asks that donations be made to the Building Fund of Seabrook United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
