Obituary of Richard Lee Hargraves

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Lee Hargraves March 17, 1956 - December 29, 2014 Richard Lee Hargraves passed away on December 29, 2014. He left us peacefully in sleep and was, according to those present at his side at the time of his passing, very happy and content with his life. As a boy Richard was considered one of the best catchers competing in the summer baseball leagues in La Porte in the mid to late 1960’s, playing the position in all-star games and on championship teams. He loved hunting and fishing and made many a trip with his dad deer hunting in the Big Thicket of East Texas or fishing Lake of the Pines near Marshall, Texas. Richard attended La Porte I.S.D. Schools and graduated from La Porte High School in 1974. Richard then went on to serve in the army from 1973 to 1976 and was honorably discharged as an armor reconnaissance specialist and won honors for marksmanship during his service. Sadly, illness kept him from realizing many of his dreams in adulthood but he always found a way to give to others and he had a very compassionate heart. Richard is survived by his Uncle Doyle Hargraves, his brothers Claude Paul Hargraves and David Alan Hargraves, his sister Mary Jan Hargraves, his sisters in law Jean Hargraves and Kristina Hargraves, his nieces Jana Souter and Jenna Pinkston, his nephews Wallace Groda Jr., Darrell Groda, and Robert Hargraves, his cousins Larry Hargraves, Wanda Drews, and Alan Meyers as well as many great nieces and nephews who are all saddened by his passing but rejoice in his finding peace. There will be an informal viewing for Richard held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, from four to seven p.m. at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home located at 201 South Third Street in La Porte, Texas 77571. All family and friends are welcome to come and say goodbye to Richard and show their love and respect accordingly. It’s okay, Rick’s with Mom and Dad now.
