John Wayne Hickman
March 19, 1937 - May 07, 2008
On Wednesday, May 7, 2008, God called one of his own home. John Hickman passed away after more than 3 years of embracing life with ALS(Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He retired from DuPont Chemical Plant in 1993 after 34 years of service where he worked as a pipefitter and Mechanical Supervisor. Beyond his passion for work, John also enjoyed woodwork, building furniture, yard work, and most of all singing. Before residing in New Caney, TX, John was a resident of La Porte for 45 years and a member of Bayshore Baptist Church. He was currently a member of Second Baptist –North Campus.
He is preceded in death by father William Proctor Hickman and son Jimmy Dwayne Hickman. He is survived by mother Ruby Hickman, wife Edna Hickman of New Caney, TX, children Jerry Wayne Hickman and Mary of Deer Park, TX, Johnny Dean Hickman and Paige of Sylacauga, AL, Amy Baker and Stephen of Friendswood, TX, brother Mack Robert Hickman and Hiroko of Killeen, TX, grandchildren Jason Hickman, Jacob Hickman, Myatt Carwile Hickman, Micah Carwile Hickman, Jessica Windsor, Joshua Hickman, Jamie Hickman, Justin Hickman, Jeremy Hickman, 1 niece, and 2 great nieces.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ericka Simpson, Dr. Stanley Appel, Rebecca Axline, and all of the ALS personnel at The Methodist Hospital-Houston. The family would also like to thank Shirley Robertson and Virginia Moss for their dedication and help during this trying time.
Visitation will be held Saturday May 10, 2008 at 5-8 PM at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family request donations be made to MDA/ALS Research Fund, C/O Dr. Stanley Appel, Dept. of Neurology/ Methodist Neurological Institute, 6560 Fannin Suite 802, Houston, TX 77030. John chose to donate body tissue for ALS research to help others with this disease.
