Obituary of Samuel Jacobs

Samuel Jacobs May 04, 1948 - January 03, 2009 Samuel “Sammy” Jacobs, 60, of La Porte passed away Saturday January 3, 2009. He was born May 4, 1948 in Pasadena, Texas to Nina Mae and Wise Samuel Jacobs. Sammy graduated from La Porte High School. He saw action in the Vietnam War as a United States Marine. After leaving the service he went to work for the La Porte P.D. in early 1970’s. During his lengthy career Sammy also served on the TMPA Board of Directors in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. He was TMPA President in 1986. Jacobs retired from the La Porte Police Department in 1998, but was still active working for Texas peace officers. He worked 2 tours with the U.N. Peacekeeping Mission training police officers in Bosnia and Kosovo through a military subcontractor and was an instructor at the Houston Community College police academy. He survived by his wife Janet Jacobs, his son Richard Heath Jacobs and wife Misty of Dickinson, daughter Patti Gates and husband Roderick of La Porte, sisters Yvonne Curry of Oregon, Connie Higgins of Pasadena, Lisa Mongiello of Santa Fe, brothers Johnnie Jacobs and wife Sue of La Porte, David Jacobs and wife Sheila of Minnesota, and grandchildren Tristan Jacobs, McKenzie Jacobs, Madison Jacobs, Jacob Gates. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 6, 2008 at 6-8 PM at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Wednesday January 7, 2008 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church of La Porte.
