Marcus A. Lamkin January 11, 1929 - November 21, 2009 Marcus A. Lamkin, 80, passed away from natural causes at his home on Saturday, November 21, 2009 after a long and complicated illness. He was born in Dallas, Texas on January 11, 1929 to Marcus and Pauline Lamkin, both of whom predeceased him. He was raised in Houston, Texas where he attended public schools. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1947 and attended William Marsh Rice Institute, receiving his B.A. Degree in 1951. He served his country in the National Guard for several years. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Judith Elayne Garland, whom he married July 3, 1954. They recently celebrated their fifty-fifth anniversary. Marc’s career spanned many years in sales of oilfield and industrial specialty equipment. He loved sailing, which ultimately brought him from Houston to Shoreacres on Galveston Bay, where he and Judy raised their family. He became active in the Houston Yacht Club, where he was honored as Yachtsman of the Year in 1977, appointed an Admiral in the Texas Navy in 1980, and served as Commodore in 1986 to 1987. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Leslie Claire Brunjes and her husband Jean of Missouri City, Texas, a son Marcus David Lamkin and his wife Trina Moiso Lamkin of Newport Beach, California, grandchildren, Michael Brunjes of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Laura Brunjes Ocker and her husband Christopher of Dallas, Texas, step-granddaughter Sienna Shattuck, grandson Austin Marcus Lamkin, and granddaughter Ava Christine Lamkin of Newport Beach, California, as well as several cousins. There will be a casual memorial reception in his honor on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 4:00PM at the Houston Yacht Club, 3621 Miramar Drive, Shoreacres, Texas 77571. At a future date, his ashes will be scattered on his beloved Galveston Bay. The family thanks his caregivers over the past years, Lavenia Lorentzen, Jean Trigg, Eva Williams, and Joyce Dudley, as well as his many loyal friends and relatives who have given him support and encouragement.
