William "Bill" Love, Jr. September 27, 1929 - August 08, 2009 William S. Love Jr., 79, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2009. Born September 27, 1929 in Galveston, Texas, the only child of William Syndey Love and Inez Bell Love. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Galveston Ball High School and The University of Texas. He was a long time resident of La Porte during which he was a chemist at Southwest Chemical & Plastics Co. and Lonza. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in La Porte where he served on numerous boards. He was very active with many service organizations including the La Porte Neighborhood Center during which time he was a key player in arranging for the funding and purchase of the building they are in now. He also represented La Porte on the Corporate Board for Neighborhood Center Inc. Bill was active with the La Porte City Council, Economic Development Council and Planning and Zoning Committee. He was a member of the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) in La Porte. In the early years in La Porte, Bill was an active member of The Lions Club. Bill Love often took on leadership roles in whatever he was involved. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Bickley Love, two children; a son Lloyd S. Love and his wife Susan, their two sons Connor Love and Blake Love; a daughter, Evelyn Love and her two sons Marcus Hunter II and Mitchell Hunter. He is survived by a brother-in-law Tom Bickley and his partner Nancy Beckman. He is also survived by an endless number of friends that are all considered family. A memorial service will be held Wednesday August 12, 2009 at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church of La Porte. A private family interment will be at Grandview Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of the usual remembrances, contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church of La Porte or The La Porte Neighborhood Center Inc.
