Obituary of Sylvia Bashford

Sylvia Bashford, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on December 6, 2007 in Houston, Texas. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Bashford. She is survived by her four sons Errol Bashford and his wife Valdette; Barrington Bashford; Junior Bashford; and Kurt Bashford; five daughters, Barbara Gaisie and her husband Kenneth; Claudette Smikle and her husband Hugh; Audrey Miller and her husband Desmond; Sonia Washington-Flye and her husband Terry; and Carlene Bashford; nineteen grandchildren Sabrina Gaisie; Sophia Bashford & Dwayne Bashford; Oscar Bashford; Jameika Vinson, Nathaleena Johns, and Hugh Smikle II; Nathania Naftaly, Desmond Miller Jr, Amber Miller, and Dana Miller; Janella Bashford, Jermane Washington, Jennifer Washington, and Jonathan Washington; Mark Bashford and Michael Bashford; Jahmal Miller and Alexander Miller; three sisters, Ruby Curtis, Sislyn Hall, and Sarah Bennett; and one brother James Bennett. Sylvia was born in Jamaica in 1927 and spent most of her life there. She immigrated to New York 36 years ago to forge a better life for herself and to pave the way for her nine children. Two years ago, Sylvia resettled in Pearland, Texas. Sylvia was a loving mother who constantly cared for her children. She was a generous person and pursued a career in nursing as another way of giving back to others. One of her pastimes was sewing. Sylvia will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas on Friday, December 14, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services are on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Clayton Funeral Home. Officiating is Hugh Smikle. Interment will be at Rosemount Cemetery, Elizabeth, New Jersey.
