John H. McCulley June 26, 1917 - June 14, 2008 John H. McCulley died peacefully in San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown on June 14, 2008.He was born on June 26,1917, in Duke, Oklahoma. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Dallas, Texas then Rice Institute in 1939 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation from Rice, he went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Co. in Baytown. He continued working for Exxon in operations management until his retirement in 1983.Most of the years were spent at the Baytown refinery except for 1963-1967 when he was the manager of the Esso Refinery in Cologne, Germany, and for brief assignments in France, Venezuela, and at the Benecia Refinery in California. For the last 39 years he enjoyed life on the bayshore in Morgan’s Point, where he served as Mayor for ten years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in LaPorte, The Houston Yacht Club and the Baytown Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Laura Stone McCulley and his four children, John McCulley and wife, Linda, of Galveston, Hugh McCulley and wife, Cathy, of Houston, Bryan McCulley and wife, Judith, of Austin and Susan McCulley Withers of Houston. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Rebecca McCulley & husband Jim Nelson of Lexington, Kentucky, Dan McCulley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Corey McCulley of Austin, Colin McCulley of Houston, Ann McCulley Wright and husband, Chris, of Austin, Marti McCulley of Dallas, Ian McCulley of New York City, Kevin McCulley of Boulder, Colorado, Scott Withers of San Marcos, Texas and William Withers of Jacksonville, Texas and his two great grand children, Pilar McCulley of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Elizabeth Nelson of Lexington, Kentucky. Following a Family Burial Service at Morgan’s Point Cemetery there will be a Memorial Service at 1:30pm on Wednesday June 18, 2008 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 815 S. Broadway, LaPorte, Texas. In Lieu of flowers, Contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or the Charity of your Choice.
