Kathryn "Kitty" Anne Meek
January 15, 1945 - November 12, 2014
Kathryn Anne “Kitty” Meek, 69, passed away November 12, 2014 in Pasadena,
Texas following a brief illness.
Born January 15, 1945, Kitty was a lifelong resident of La Porte and
member of La Porte Community Church. She was active in several aspects of
church life, especially the bell choir that regularly performed at Sunday
services and at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston. In addition to her
church life, Kitty enjoyed spending time with her many friends in the Red
Hat Society, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, her bunko group and friends that she
has made throughout her life, including some she has known since
childhood.
While attending as a student at San Jacinto College, Kitty also began
working in the Registrar's Office. This was the beginning of a fruitful
30-year career with the college. Her enthusiasm for the detailed nature
of the job became evident. When she encountered a gap in student or class
information, she viewed it as a challenging puzzle and would track down
the details that solved the problem. Later in her career at the college
she would apply the same enthusiasm while maintaining employee records at
the district office. Kitty was recognized by staff and faculty at the
college as the go-to person to find answers to questions or to solve a
problem. She cherished the time she spent with her workmates, and they
were among the closest of her friendships.
Kitty was a wonderful and giving mother, and extended that nurturing love
beyond her immediate family. Over the years she was a foster mother, a
girl scout troop leader, a girl's softball coach, a safety valve when her
children's friends needed help and a doting great grandmother.
She is survived by her son Frank Meek and wife Barbara Shows of Austin,
Texas; her daughter Debra Meek Arcement and Husband Remy of Picayune,
Mississippi; her grandchild Mary Conners and husband Cory of Violet,
Louisiana, her great grandchildren Cory and Morgan Conners; her sister
Patricia Sue McFarlin of Maricopa, Arizona; her three nieces, a nephew and
several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She is preceded in death by her
daughter Kathy Lynn Meek and her sister Gloria Heinrich.
Visitation will be at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home on Sunday,
November 16 from 5-8 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday,
November 17, at La Porte Community Church. Interment at Grand View
Memorial Park will be followed by a lunch reception at La Porte Community
Church. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation in Kitty's name
to the La Porte Community Church.
