Thomas Mims
November 02, 1951 - April 13, 2007
Thomas Doyle Mims passed away April 13, 2007 after valiantly battling years of illness with dignity and humor. Survivors include parents, Thomas J. and Argie Schroeder Mims; brother, Randy Mims and his wife Mary, and their daughter, his much beloved, Ashley; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. Herbert C. Schroeder and wife, Lillian, of Brenham, Texas and Mr. T. J. Mims and wife, Nita of Courtney, Texas. Doyle made lifelong friends wherever he was and was sure to fill each day with family and friends. He attended La Porte High School, obtained an Associate Degree in Business from San Jacinto College, a BBA from Southwest Texas State University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Doyle worked as a Business Manager for Galveston College from 1976 until illness forced him to retire. He was also a white water river guide throughout the eighties for Texas River Expeditions and head cook for the Gumbo Ya Ya Team throughout the nineties. He loved the many visits to the casinos with his father, Tom, his convertibles, his dogs, Tag and Kinky and his vast number of cherished friendships. He was an avid writer and philosopher with a wry sense of humor, which he shared with the more than 72 people on his daily email list. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, from 5-8 p.m., at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A small graveside service will take place Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Care Team, 1708 North Amburn Road, Suite C, Texas City, TX 77591. Doyle may not have lived a long life, but he lived each moment to the fullest and will be greatly missed.
