Obituary of Thomas John Mims

Thomas John Mims November 26, 1925 - August 28, 2008 Thomas John Mims, Jr., passed away August 28, 2008. He was born on November 26, 1925, the son of Thomas J. and Nita Mims of Navasota. Tom graduated from Navasota High School in 1943 and was immediately inducted into the Naval Air Corp. through the V-12 Program. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant Jr. Grade (JG). He went on to earn his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. He began his career in teaching and coaching in Aransas Pass, TX and then served as Head Coach and Athletic Director at Brenham High School from 1951 to 1961. He was employed by San Jacinto College in Pasadena, TX from its inception in 1961 to his retirement in 1981. In 1948 he married Argie L. Schroeder of Brenham. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and son Thomas Doyle Mims, and his brother Donald Mims. He is survived by his wife and his son John Randolph (Randy) Mims, daughter-in-law, Mary Mims, and most beloved Granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Mims, his brother William (Billy) Mims, his wife Jackie, sister-in-law, Janice Mims and very special hunting and fishing buddy Carroll Ferguson.
