Alexander Osmond, Jr. April 02, 1923 - July 17, 2009 Alexander William Osmond Jr., 86, “The Wizard” of Clear Lake City, died Friday, July 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Iris Esteen Osmond. Alex is survived by a son and two daughters; Alex Osmond III and wife, Mary, of La Porte, Pat Burns and husband, Jack, of Salem, Mass., and Iris Hirmas of Galveston; grandchildren, Alex IV and Aryn Osmond, Thomas and Claire Burns and Crista and Jean-Paul Hirmas. Alex Osmond Jr. was a veteran of World War II where he served in the 503rd Parachute Infantry. The opening of the Shamrock Hotel in 1949 brought Alex and his young family to Houston. He was also the Maître d' at the Balinese Room in Galveston and the Rice Hotel in Houston. Alex’s authentic nature and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life was an amazing gift. In his last years, Alex could often be seen at the Bay Forest Golf Course driving range giving lessons and telling his amazing stories. “Big Wiz” will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. The family kindly requests that in lieu of usual remembrances, donations be made to La Porte Bay Forest Junior Golf Association, 201 Bay Forest, La Porte TX 77571. Visitation will be held Sunday July 19, 2009 at 6-8 PM at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday July 20, 2009 at 10AM the funeral home.
