Walter Ratcliffe Springall, 87, of Georgetown, Texas, long time resident of La Porte, Texas, passed away on April 29th, 2012. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to Walter and Julia Springall on December, 4, 1924. Walter served his country during WWII as a Pilot with the 14th Air Force, 322nd Troop Carrier Squadron in the China Defensive, also known as the Flying Tigers. He was awarded the American Thatre Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Unit Citation Badge, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Stars. From the time Walt was a child, he enjoyed sailing and boating on Galveston Bay. He was an active member of the Houston Yacht Club and served as Commodore in 1985-1986. Walt was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Julia Springall and his first wife Virginia Springall. He is survived by wife Mary Springall, daughter Katherine Kerber and husband Tommy, stepdaughter Sharon Favorita, stepsons Gary Davis, Bill Davis and wife Susan, grandchildren Keith Kerber, Tony Kerber, step grandchildren Don Favorita, Leslie Garner and husband Cody, Kayla Burnaman, Lauren Davis, Sarah Davis, and step-great grandchild Easton Garner. There will be a private family service and a public memorial service on Friday May 4th, 2012 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the Houston Yacht Club. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to Scott & White Hospice, HYC Memorial Fund, or and hospice of your choice.
