Obituary of Sam Emory Akin

Sam Emory Akin October 01, 1952 - August 29, 2008 Sam Emory Akin died on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, Webster at the age of 55. He was born October 1, 1952 in Austin, Texas. After graduating Crockett High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned a B.A. in Psychology in 1975 from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a respiratory therapist practitioner for 30 years and worked at The Methodist Hospital of Houston Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Collins, and by his niece, Lezlie Jones. Sam is survived by Jan Akin, his wife of 30 years; his father, James Sam Akin of Dripping Springs; daughters, Ashley Lane Akin and Lindsey Elizabeth Akin, both of Houston; stepdaughter, Nicole Kamas Loper and her husband, Chris Loper of Dallas; his sister, Sandra Jane Miller and her husband, Frank, of Leander; his brother, Thomas Lynn Akin of Dripping Springs; his brother-in-law, Hal Hallonquist and his wife, Fran of Honolulu, Hi.; his grandchildren, Jacob Samuel Poirrier, Paige Jana Poirrier, Kendyl Elizabeth Loper, and Chelsea Brynn Loper. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday September 2, 2008 at the Paul U. Lee Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd Street in La Porte. Funeral services will be held the following morning at 10 a.m., Wednesday September 3, also at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home. Internment will immediately follow at Grandview Memorial Cemetery in Pasadena.
