Steven Robert Steinle
March 15, 1953 - May 23, 2016
"Gentlemen, start your engines"
Steven Robert Steinle finished his race on Monday, May 23, 2016. His wife, brothers and sister were at his bedside as he pulled into the winner’s circle.
Steve was born March 15, 1953 to Robert and Joyce Steinle in St. Louis, MO. He married the love of his life, Cherie Shaw, on August 5, 1989. She shared his love of auto racing. He is survived by His wife, Cherie Shaw Steinle, step-son Max (Jerry) Jones III, his brothers Ricky Steinle (Brenda) of Portland, OR, Greg Steinle (Ellen) of Cross Plains, TX and Kurt Steinle (Debbie) of Houston, TX, sister Terry Parrish (Larry) of Abilene, TX, mother-in-law Charlotte Mills of Houston, TX, brothers-in-law Thomas Shaw of Houston, TX and Joe Long of Centerville, TX, sister-in-law Donna Sample (Dirk) of Dayton, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He has been reunited with his mother and father, who preceded him in death.
He revered our military and loved to voice his opinion about democrats and liberals. He was also an accomplished and well-respected photographer. Steve was a member of HALO Truck Club and the exclusive photographer of HMP and CTS. Steve loved God, his family, his cats and racing. Whether watching it, photographing it or just talking about it, he enjoyed most forms of race fuel and rubber. NASCAR, NHRA and the local racing scene will not be the same without Steve’s input; his support, his criticisms, his opinions and passion. He could be cantankerous and overly opinionated . . . and, in spite of (or perhaps because of) this, was loved and cherished by family and friends alike.
Steve was blessed to have recently taken a long-desired 3,700 mile road trip to visit the NASCAR Hall-of-Fame and enjoy the sights and rich histories of Washington D.C. and New York City.
He will be missed and remembered by those who loved him every day. No one will ever replace Uncle Honey. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Sparkman, Nicholas Pena, Dalton Carpenter, Kiefer Steinle, Raymond Steinle, Mark Cannon, Coy Cannon, Joe Long IV and Jake Long.
Donations can be made in Steve’s memory to Speedway Children’s Charities www.speedwaycharities.org. Visitation is Friday May 27, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home. Services are Saturday May 28, 2016 at 11am at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel.
