Thomas Allan Studdard
September 08, 1949 - August 25, 2015
Thomas Allan Studdard passed away, August 25, 2015 in West Houston (Katy area). He was born on the 8th of September 1949 to Jimmy and Ann Studdard in Opelika, Alabama. Following high school at Sam Rayburn in Pasadena, He joined the United States Army in 1966, where he served one year in Germany and one year in Vietnam. He married Frances Gant in May, 1969 while still in the service. Soon after getting out of the Army they moved to Austin and raised their family and recently returned to the Katy area of West Houston.
Allan enjoyed vacationing with his wife, Frances. Some of the most memorable of these were to Hawaii, Acapulco, Mazatlan, San Francisco, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Hilton Head, San Antonio and many trips to New Orleans and Vegas and numerous day trips around Austin where Allan and his family lived for many years. Allan was a retired Sales Manager for Village Homes in Austin for many years. He loved to go, on a daily basis. He did not care where, just so long as he was going. He loved going to the beach and watching and listening to the sound of the waves. He loved to go to Starbucks every day and read the paper and he loved shopping and surprising all his family with something he had bought just for them for no reason other than he saw it and thought it was perfect for them. Allan's favorite singer/songwriters were Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. He loved music but greatly appreciated a good writer.
Allan was preceded in death by his father, James T. Studdard. He is survived by his Mother Ann Studdard, his loving wife of 46 1/2 years, Frances Gant Studdard; daughter Lisa Studdard Browning of West Houston; son, Daylon Studdard of the Katy area; and daughter, Shellie Studdard of Alabama. Also his sister Paula Jacobs and husband Charlie of Onalaska and sister, Linda Howell of Pasadena; grandchildren, Zachery Studdard (Katy), Jennifer Browning (West Houston), Alyssa Browning (West Houston), Christian Studdard (Alabama), Matthew Studdard (Alabama), great-grandson Kylar Studdard (Katy area) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the helpful and caring staff at the Methodist West Hospital ER, Heart unit and Cancer Unit where Allan was so wonderfully taken care of the past several weeks. Also his many doctors and nurses that worked so hard on keeping him with us as long as possible, and a special thanks to his oncologist, Dr. Shagufta Naqvi for going over and beyond in her responsibilities and for being so compassionate and caring.
Friends and family will gather to share remembrances of Allan during a Memorial at 2 pm on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home. (281) 471-0123
