James Lucius Tomberlin, 91, of Highlands, TX. joined his beloved wife Elizabeth in their blessed eternal home on January 30th, 2014. He was born in Valdosta, GA. on September 24th, 1922 to David and Kathleen Tomberlin. James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Highlands, Gideons, a charter member of Fairmont Park Baptist Church, The National Physics Honor Society, and had a BS in Physics and Mathematics from Stetson University in Deland, FL. He served in the U.S. Air Force during 1942-1946 and 1950-1956. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and was one of the original 16 flight controllers at NASA. James is survived by his daughters Kay Guyette and husband Jim of Chicago, IL., Marie Bobalik and husband Rick of Highlands, TX., Pat Kent and husband Mike of Sugarland, TX., sister Margaret Condra and husband John of Georgia, brother Thomas O. Tomberlin and wife Doris of Georgia., sister-in-law Marie Howard of Florida, brother-in-law Tim McCrory of Florida, grandchildren Reecie Crotts and husband Matthew, Christie Tiemann and husband Capt. Matthew Tiemann USMC, James Bobalik, SGT. Blake Kent USANG and wife Brady, Katie Powell and husband Troy, and great grandchildren Elizabeth Powell, Whitney Powell, Kate Crotts, Claire Tiemann. Services will be held at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home on February 3rd, 2014 at 10:00AM with interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park. A reception/visitation of the family will follow at the First Baptist Church 210 N. Magnolia Highlands, TX. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to the African Mission Fund at First Baptist Church, Highlands, TX.; Gideons International (www.gideons.org) or Guyette Family Scholarship Fund, St. Mary’s College, Moraga, CA.
