I worked with John at Enterprise for 5 years and truly considered him a friend. Of course, everyone was John's friend. "Never met a stranger" is entirely appropriate for him. He provided wise guidance to me on many occasions and I enjoyed working with him. He will be missed.

To the Tomerlin family, While I worked as Fire Marshal for the City of La Porte, and John was a Councilman for the City of La Porte, I had many opportunities to work with him on different projects. I always found him to be a professional in every aspect of his position. He was always pleasant, understanding with everyone's best interest at heart. In all the years that John was on the council, I never heard anyone ever say a bad word about him. I will always remember John with his big smile and handshake.

Johnny was my good friend in elementary school and square dancing partner in Jr High. He was always kind and good and seemed mature for his age. Since Mother and Dad lived in La Porte, they were able to keep me informed of my classmates through the years. Johnny did well and had a wonderful family. A couple of years ago I mailed him his school photos to share with his grandchildren. I've enjoyed visiting with him on FB and will miss him. My prayers go to you, Jean, and all of your family.

John was a good christian man, a good friend, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him at Enterprise. I worked with John from the time I started in 2002 until he retired in 2005. He had a great sense of humor and very kind heart. He would do anything for you. I know he will be missed because he touched a lot of lives, but he truly is in a better place.

My heart is truly saddened. Mr. Tomerlin was the most genuine and fair individual that I have know in my 40 years with Enterprise. I called him Mr. Tomerlin once and he corrected me, "Please call me John". I truly respected him and although our lives moved in different circles always thought of him as a friend.

I worked for John over 38 years ago at Southwest Chemical and when he left to go to work for Enterprise, he called me and said I want you to come and work for Enterprise, you don't even need to interview. So the next Monday, I went to work for him at Enterprise. Now at 38 years later, I still call Enterprise my home. He was the nicest, kindest man that I have ever known. A real gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and his family during this most difficult time.

Johnny was a lifelong friend, and I felt him a brother as much as a friend. And knowing how much I will always miss him, I cannot fathom how much he will be missed by his family and the many others who knew him. I am proud and honored to have been his friend. We will never find another like him. God bless him on the way to his Happy Hunting Grounds.
